1. Who we are

This website is operated by Singer Photographic Services (Pty) Ltd, a company registered in the Republic of South Africa under registration number 1966/004866/07, trading as Singer Photographic ("we", "us", "our").

This Privacy Policy applies to the websites we operate, including singerphoto.co.za and our brand microsites such as tamronlenses.co.za.

We are committed to protecting your personal information and to processing it lawfully in accordance with the Protection of Personal Information Act, 4 of 2013 ("POPIA") and the Electronic Communications and Transactions Act, 25 of 2002 ("ECTA").

2. Information we collect

We may collect and process the following categories of personal information:

  • Information you give us: name, surname, email address, telephone number, billing and delivery address, and account login details when you register, place an order, subscribe to our newsletter, or contact us.
  • Transaction information: details of products you purchase, order history, and delivery details. Card payments are processed by our payment providers — we do not store your full card details.
  • Information collected automatically: IP address, browser type and version, device type, operating system, pages viewed, referring website, and the dates and times of your visits, collected via cookies and similar technologies.

3. Why we process your information

We process personal information for the following purposes:

  • to create and administer your account;
  • to process, fulfil and deliver your orders, and to handle returns, repairs and warranty claims;
  • to communicate with you about your orders and enquiries;
  • to send you marketing communications where you have consented, or where permitted by law;
  • to operate, secure, maintain and improve our websites;
  • to detect and prevent fraud; and
  • to comply with our legal and regulatory obligations.

4. Lawful basis for processing

We process personal information where: you have consented; processing is necessary to conclude or perform a contract with you; processing is required by law; processing protects a legitimate interest of yours; or processing is necessary for our legitimate interests or those of a third party, balanced against your rights.

5. Sharing your information

We do not sell your personal information. We may share it with:

  • service providers who process information on our behalf (hosting, payment processing, couriers and delivery partners, IT support, marketing platforms), under written agreements requiring them to protect it;
  • brand principals or suppliers where necessary to fulfil a warranty, repair or product-support request; and
  • regulators, law enforcement or other third parties where we are required or permitted by law to do so.

6. Cross-border transfers

Some of our service providers may be located outside South Africa. Where we transfer personal information across borders, we take reasonable steps to ensure it is afforded a level of protection substantially similar to that required under POPIA.

7. Security

We apply appropriate, reasonable technical and organisational measures to safeguard personal information against loss, damage, unlawful access and unauthorised destruction. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security. If a security compromise affecting your personal information occurs, we will notify you and the Information Regulator as required by POPIA.

8. Retention

We retain personal information only for as long as necessary to fulfil the purposes for which it was collected, or for as long as required by law (for example, tax, accounting and consumer-protection record-keeping obligations). Thereafter it will be deleted or de-identified.

9. Cookies

Our websites use cookies and similar technologies to keep you signed in, remember your basket, measure site usage, and improve your experience. You can set your browser to refuse cookies, but some parts of our websites may not function properly if you do.

10. Your rights

Subject to POPIA, you have the right to:

  • request confirmation of whether we hold personal information about you, and to request access to it;
  • request that we correct, update or delete personal information that is inaccurate, irrelevant, excessive, out of date, incomplete, misleading or unlawfully obtained;
  • object, on reasonable grounds, to the processing of your personal information;
  • withdraw your consent at any time, where processing is based on consent;
  • unsubscribe from marketing communications at any time, using the unsubscribe link or by contacting us; and
